Not only do we get to mutilate innocent people for enjoyment, but we even get to be vampires!

One of the places where Carmageddon was sorely lacking was multiplayer. Judging from the huge
number of network options in C2, it's obvious not only that the designers were intent on
rectifying this error, but that they played a lot of games of tag in the schoolyard as kids.
The ability to play over the Internet will be present as well, finally, but at this time it's
not known what exact system of connections will be used. Some of the multiplayer games
available to players are:
Driven to Destruction: Your standard deathmatch, where the
last car moving is declared the winner.
Car Crusher: The objective here is to be the first car to
accumulate five "frags" (or "points" in this case) by killing five opponents (or one opponent
five times :)"He's pickin' on me!")
Carnage Accumulator: The first car to splatter 50 pedestrians
wins.
Checkpoints Stampede: Almost your standard race. The first
car across all the checkpoints wins, but the checkpoints can be crossed in any order. Judging
from the sprawling, maze-like city levels, this mode could have a real strategy element to it.
Sudden Death: A "knockout"-style race, where the last driver to
cross all the checkpoints is eliminated from competition.
There are also three variations of "car tag", which I must admit I've played in my Oldsmobile
more than once :) Hitting an opponent counts as a tag, although I didn't really hit quite so
hard in my Oldsmobile :)
Terminal Tag: If a player remains "it" for a certain amount
of time, they are out of the game. The last car remaining wins.
Fox and Hounds: The opposite of Terminal Tag, the objective
here is to remain "it" for a certain amount of time in order to win.
The Vampire Game: Obviously a throwback to a fun schoolyard
game, one of the drivers starts off as the "vampire". Whenever they ram another car, that car
too becomes a "vampire". When all but one driver has been tagged, they are the winners.
Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now! is expected for a November release, so it should be among one
of the hot titles to get this Christmas. One issue that still remains unresolved is that of
censorship. The previous Carmageddon had to contend with the European market and its
conservative attitudes. In Germany, rather than pedestrians the player had robots to run
over, while other countries had green-blooded zombies. Carmageddon 2 will almost certainly
run into the same opposition oversees, if not more, and rumor has it that the pedestrians may
be replaced with aliens for the more tight-assed countries. Being a Christmas release can
only hurt its chances for remaining unchanged for all nations.
