EverQuest was designed from the ground up to be a massively multiplayer online game. There are about 5 servers open for
the Phase IV beta test, and all the times I've played there have been 500 or more players per server, and I've even played
with over 1000 simultaneous users online. With all the features it has, so many players online, and so much going on...
there has been virtually no lag whatsoever for me playing the game. The game interface sports a handy on-screen latency
meter with not only numeric information, but color coding as well. I'd guesstimate that 95% of the time my latency meter
was green (which is good) with only a few flashes now and then to yellow, and only one instance thus far (in about 25
hours of play) where I've actually noticed some lag in movement and view.
Another consideration for logistics, lag, and cheating is that ALL player files are stored on the EverQuest servers.
EverQuest aims to be a cheat/hack proof game or at least a VERY difficult game to abuse and exploit.
