Killing and Hurting and Blood Boiling, oh my! And AI that responds to my every action, and it even yells at me! Oh no, my ego!

That's a pretty nifty little list, it's got the whole spectrum of cynical powers and such; the fun never ends! In my interview with Phil Co, I was curious as to how they were handling spells in Requiem: Wrath of the Fallen. Basically your powers revolve around a little thing called 'Essence'. That's your standard mana for the powers you possess. "While on Creation, Malachi has a limited number of Angelic Powers. He receives more powers as he progresses through the game, and he gains more 'Essence' as he moves along too. Similar to mana, Essence allows Malachi to use Angelic Powers. He will lose Essence if he kills innocents and he will gain more over time and by defeating Fallen Angels." So all you need to do is kill the guy with a pitchfork and wings to get the ability to boil blood! Woohoo!

And you will have plenty to kill in this game as well. As I said above, this one is an action game at heart, which means you will be getting a lot of action! But what you kill won't exactly be mindless monsters running around shooting at stuff, but actual enemies that think and react based on the current situation. "There are two different kinds of AI in the game - done by two different programmers. We thought the satisfaction of a game like 'Goldeneye' was for there to be a lot of enemies that were easy to kill, fun to watch, and that worked somewhat together. Requiem's lighter enemies can perform several animations and actions including jumping up and down off world objects, dying in a variety of ways, calling in groups of other enemies, recognizing if you are holding your weapon up or down, pushing you as if to taunt you, executing civilians in the streets, and ducking or hiding behind cover." (Whoo!) That's quite a mouth full if you ask me. Being the senile skeptic that I am, I decided to do some additional research on the AI. A good example of the great light AI in this game would be when Malachi was walking down a street with his gun out, and behold a guard began yelling at him to drop his weapon. Pretty impressive, especially for a FPS.

Moving on to the other AI - Boss AI. "The other AI is the Boss AI which is much more challenging. Malachi faces Fallen Angels one at a time and the Fallen have quite a few tricks up their sleeves, or maybe their halos?" I guess what he meant by that was that the bosses would be harder. And that Bosses have a few tricks up their sleeves - maybe something along the lines of holograms? Hmmm, it really makes you think...
