Our hero is a primitive and naive villager, exploring the world for the first time... embrace corruption or walk a path of virtue, or play somewhere in the middle of good and evil... It's up to you to choose.

The game's engine is being improved a bit but the same basic concept is being used. Load times are to be significantly improved, and many of the bugs inherent in the first are to be eradicated. But since the same engine is being used, I have a fear that this game may come off more as an expansion pack than as a whole new game. The beta of FO2 show many similar elements to the original, even down to identical splash screens, but it's a work in progress and I'm positive new art will be added. But still, many people may see FO2 as more of an expansion pack than a fresh game because of the reused engine. But it worked for the original, right? Hopefully, it will work its magic in the sequel. But all in all, this sequel looks to be a very solid release fairly early in its production. If you're a fan of the original, you probably won't be disappointed.

MISSION SUMMARY FROM THE BETA VERSION:
This is a sample of the missions available in Fallout 2... remember any path can be taken, and in no way must game progression follow this path.

The Cave of Trials:
As a humble villager of near divine descent (your character is a direct descendant of the vault dweller character from the original). You must pass a test to show that you are capable of surviving the world outside the relative safety of your village. You are taken to the Cave of Trials and given only a spear and your animal hide clothes. You must fight rats, Rad scorpions and mantis' with only a spear, and you must be able to use all your skills to lockpick doors as well as use your agility to maneuver past booby traps. Next you'll gain valuable experience using plastic explosives, or "white clay". You're character's naivete is quaint, but you get the job done and blow through a wall to escape. Heroism is in your blood. Before long in the caves, you will battle it out with some rabid beasts and recover your character's ancestor's old vault 13 uniform, and it's still blue with yellow trim after all these years, if not a bit tattered and dusty. Congratulations. You are worthy.

Starting on the Quest:
You return to the village and the Elder rewards your character with some useful tools, and wishes you luck on the quest for the GECK (Garden of Eden creation kit). The village is teeming with life and immediately you come across NPC's who will interact with you. Pick up some skills from Jordan the martial artist, or try to acquire some helpful items from kindly villagers. OR you can help the old man Hakunin destroy the man eating plants in his garden. And with no Orkin man available, the task falls to you. As a reward, the old gentleman gives you healing powder and will gladly make more if the correct ingredients are found. He needs a special root and a flower to make it and they're found in the northern hunting grounds.
