I can finally feel the power flowing through my veins! What's that? You don't like what I
have to say? Well let's see what Blood Boil does...
|
And you know what that means? Yes folks, another transition line, so now I'm going to begin
ranting about the AI and RPG elements in the game. Being the idiot I am, I was a bit confused
about the fact that the game had a bunch of RPG elements, yet how it could still be an
action-shooter? "Requiem is still a shooter. It's got all the action, the violence, the
exploration, the controls, and the physics of a lot of the shooters out there. It simply adds
elements that give it more depth and compel the player to finish the single-player game. This
is where the story, the character interaction, and the angelic powers come in." Wow, I'm glad
the violence and physics are all there, all the more to fixate myself on when it comes out -
no sarcasm intended... yes I am that pathetic...
"But Tim," you may ask, "How in the world can a game possibly possess all this cool action and
still have solid RPG elements?" Well, let me explain. You see, throughout the game you must
interact with NPC's to get quests and such. If you have ever played Strife, you know that you
basically talked to characters and said 'Yes', while saying 'No' resulted in 100 guards up the
arse. "However, all of the NPC's in the game react to the player dependent upon the player's
current actions. Whether they have their gun up or down, whether they reveal their angelic
abilities, or whether they are carrying the right elements that allow them to progress through
the game." A perfect example of this is one of the guards in the beginning of the game.
Walking up to them with your gun in hand results in some nasty shouts of "Drop your Weapon!"
Failure to comply results in him calling in some buddies and you getting, as my old Game
Master used to say, 'Blown into a fine, red mist which delicately paints the floor.'
Speaking of powers, Mr. Malachi has a few cool-ass tricks up his sleeve as well. Along with
your nifty little futuristic weapons, you also get a slew of cool Angelic spells divided into
four main categories - Offensive, Defensive, Maneuver, and Special. All of these groups have
cool spells ranging from blood boil and turning people into salt, to Teleport and Flight.
"Please, tell me more!" No problem kiddies, because I got a nice little sample list waiting for you on the next page.
