In it's beta state, SinCTF has only 6 maps. This is expected to increase before release, but what is currently offered are
maps from Ritual, the Cops and Robbers guys, and one from Charles Wiederhold of 3DRealms.
HipCTF is Levelord's CTF map. It's a spacey base thing, and it rocks the house! It's… um… neat. I don't know how else to
describe it. It's basically this huge, floating level, and the flag rests outside of the base part, protected by one
turret. A fun thing to do is get on the roof and snipe people! Of course, there goes my strategy.
ParaCTF is Tom "Paradox" Mustaine's CTF map. It's a huge military base thing and the only map to have vehicles. Couple of
tips: Use the vehicles. I don't know how many times when I was playing at Ritual someone ran me over. The best way to not
get run over is be on a four wheeler. It also gets you through the level faster. Also, it's good to have someone working
the turret that is near the flag. Since there is only that one way to the flag, you can mow people down like crazy.
Early Withdrawal is an alright map with some redeeming qualities. It was made by Berenger "Zor" Fish and is basically the
bank level cut and mirrored around, with some SinCity thrown in, and some tunnels to link it all together. Not a bad map,
but it doesn't grab you by the balls the way some of them do. One fun thing to do is grab the sniper rifle and grapple on
the side of a building in the street, picking people off all day long.
Brandon Fish made Brafish CTF, which is a large expanding base thing. It's a pretty interesting level. It has a huge
waterfall, and some nice places to snipe from. One of the best places to be is in the turrets. Of course, I'm never in the
turrets, but I certainly get killed a lot by people who are.
The Dig is a map by Charles "Wieder" Wiederhold. This is one screwed up map. The red team and blue team have reversed
gravity. This means that the red team's floor is the blue team's ceiling. Confused? Wait until you play. This map makes me
dizzier than doing nitrous on a merry-go-round. One fun thing to do is lurk in the corners with the sniper rifle. If
you're on the blue team, it's nearly impossible to see you in the darkness.
My cat is snoring, so that means I have one more map to talk about. At least, I think I do. I only remember one more. If
there are any more, shoot me. Aborted Fetus (great name, by the way) came up with the idea "Hey, McKinley for Q2 rocked!
I'll make that one!" and ran with it. And, yes, it is a pretty cool map. But, if you've played Q2CTF, then you know what
to expect.
SinCTF is by far the best CTF mod (or game) out there. There's a simple reason for this: even the mediocre maps are
wonderful. The only reason some are even mediocre is because of what I have to compare them to.
When I played this on a LAN, it wasn't much of a problem, but now the only complaint I have is that there are only two
servers. This is because it's still in beta, and they haven't released the server code. Only two servers means it's tough
to get on sometimes, but it increases your chance of seeing one of the Ritual guys running by you with the flag.
If you don't want to hassle with trying to get on to one of the servers, then wait until this is completely released, and
download it then. However, since it only weighs in at 8 megs, there's no point to not trying it out now and watching Zor
just beat the crap out of your entire team.
