After seeing what Cavedog did with Total Annihilation, everybody is expecting a lot from Amen: The Awakening.

You will most likely have your regular choice of weapons in the game, but the truly innovative
weapons will be ones that you normally wouldn't think could be used as weapons, like a potted
plant. Almost every object can be picked up and used against the enemy, so keep your eyes
peeled for anything that looks sharp or useful. Those objects may come in handy for things
besides killing. Cavedog has talked about holding a contest shortly after the release to see
who can beat the game with the fewest kills, and they are hoping for someone to do it without
any. I asked Greg MacMartin if I could run through the game shooting wildly while killing
everything, and he said that would be possible if I was good enough. Maybe Cavedog should
hold another contest to see who can get through the game with the most kills ;)
Is it possible that Amen: The Awakening will be a pioneer in the eventual death of genres, or
will it just be looked at as a game that tried to do too much, like Rebel Assault? Well, I
can honestly say that I have never heard of a game that will play the way you want it to, so
if anything, Amen: The Awakening will be on my top 10 list of most anticipated games for a
very long time (considering that we have to wait until summer 1999 to try it out!) Even
though we got a nice interview from lead designer of the Amen team, Cavedog is still being
really stingy on the screenshots so we were forced to use the only four in existence right
now. They promise that they will release all new shots in the near future, so keep your
browsers pointed to screenshots.net to see them right away. After making Total Annihilation,
one of the best games of 1997, I am surprised to see Cavedog turn around and do such an
ambitious action/adventure game. If Cavedog can make Amen: The Awakening anywhere near as fun
as their previous game, I think we will have a new company to keep a close eye on.
